I have never had any formal art training but have always been interested in drawing, painting, and crafts of every kind. I took an oil painting class at a local high school in Florida about 30 years ago and it snowballed from there. Although I loved oil painting, it took so long to dry. I tried my hand at acrylics and was elated as to how fast I could complete my projects. I actually taught tole painting for many years but eventually burnt myself out on all painting. I had probably a 5 year lull between the time I stopped painting and when my affair with rubber stamping began. About 6 years ago, I purchased one rubber stamp to make Christmas cards and it immediately became an obsession. I found I could utilize my love of painting with rubber stamping and I have not stopped since. I love everything about this artform and the fact that you can use it for just about everything fascinates me. I started playing with shrink plastic about two years ago and about 6 months ago launched my jewelry business, "Sassy Designs". I have been showing and selling my work at our local Museum, an art gallery, a coffee shoppe, and an eclectic dress shop. As for my personal life, I work full time and have been in my current job for 26 years and been married to my hubby for 26 years. Fortunately, hubby is very supportive of my obsession. I have a two-legged stepson and grand-daughter and a four-legged, furry son, a Schnauzer named Pepper. When I am not stamping and/or shrinking, you will find me reading or playing with my Game Boy. Masks: Using the acrylic mask shape available from Too Much Fun, trace around the shape and then enlarge to 130%. (Or use a PolyShrink Ruler to estimate the needed size, and make your own mask template.) Trace the mask image onto your sanded PolyShrink and cut out. Cut eyes out with an X-acto knife. Using alcohol-based inks (light colors) and gold Krylon pen, cover mask using polished-stone technique. Once surface is dry, decorate the mask using black heat-set inks. Also add details with a gold permanent ink pen. Shrink, rub the edge lightly with the rust-colored chalk; drill holes in mask and/or matboard and add embellishments .Stamp Credits: Acrylic shape from Too Much Fun |
